27th Year of Reading Month 2023 was inaugurated by Dr.Nithya Mariam John,Assistant Professor,Poet and translator .She spoke on the importance of reading.
In connection with Karkidaka Month, the Department of Languages organized a lecture on Ramayana on 21-07-2023. Dr. Sharat P. Nath, Faculty from Baselius College’s Sanskrit Department, delivered a lecture on the topic “Ramayana Revisited.”
In association with the centenary of Malayalam literature giant M.T. Vasudevan Nair, the Language Department organized a screening of the documentary ” Kumaranelloorile Kulangal” by M.A. Rahman at 2:30 PM in the RUSA Seminar Hall. The program was inaugurated by Dr. Mini Joseph, Principal of the College. In her inaugural speech, she discussed the relevance of M.T.’s films.
With the orientation program of language department a film screening program titled Celluloid Classics & Digital Delights: G. Aravindan’s Kummatty & Tagore’s Kabuliwala was organized. Following that, a film review competition was conducted, inspired by the films screened.
As part of the anniversary celebrations, the “Shathanimisham Malayalam” competition was organized for students on August 17, 2023, at 3:00 PM in the B.M.M. Hall. Students from six departments participated in the competition.
On November 1, which is celebrated as Keralapiravi , a seminar and book festival were organized. Under the chairmanship of Principal Dr. Renni P. Varghese, a seminar was conducted on the topic _Anubhavam ,Arivu Aksharam: Unnathavidyabyasavum Mathrubhasha Padanathinte Prasakthiyum’_ .Dr.Anitta Shaji, Assistant Professor of Malayalam at St.George College ,Aruvithara delivered the keynote address. This was followed by a speech on Kerala’s contemporary culture and book publishing by Dr. Blaise John, the winner of the National Film Award, Kerala.
A book festival, organized in collaboration with D.C. Books, was inaugurated by Dr. Blaise John, the winner of the National Film Award. Students, teachers, and non-teaching staff actively participated in the exhibition and sale of academic and non-academic books.
A quiz competition titled “Keraleeyam” was organized jointly by the Quiz Club and the Language Department. Six teams participated, representing various departments. Devinandan J. and Ananthu Kiran V. from the Food Science department secured first place. Arsha S. and Aleena Johnson from the Zoology department secured second place. Aleena Biju and Arathi Shankar from the Economics department secured third place. Feba Achu Andrews and Anoop K.R. led the competition as staff members.
In commemoration of National Youth Day on January 12, 2024, under the auspices of the Language Department, College Union, and Film Club, a magazine titled “A Magazine Penned in One Hour” was prepared. Nineteen students from various departments participated in the magazine’s activities. The concept emerged from the idea of how to effectively compile the results of the students’ research. The magazine was fully completed by 3:15 PM, two hours after it began at 2:15 PM.
In commemoration of International Mother Language Day, the Language Department of K.G. College, in collaboration with the College Union and the Arts Club, screened classic Malayalam films with subtitles. Darwin Kuriakose (film director) and Dolwin Kuriakose (producer) jointly inaugurated the film festival. Principal Prof. (Dr.) Renni P. Varghese,Faculty Mr.K.R. Anoop, College Union Vice Chairperson Navya Krishna, and Arts Club Secretary Alan Jacob delivered speeches.
