PROFILE OF THE DEPARTMENT
Vision: To develop into a world class centre of excellence in teaching, learning and research in Commerce to groom global citizens.
Mission: Through transforming lives heeded on nurturing human bonds, values and intellectualness ensuring a hassle free voyage to accomplish the goals to be a beacon to many.
The Department of Commerce at our college was established in 1981 and introduced the B.Com Degree Programme in 1995. In 1998, it became the first Postgraduate Department by offering the M.Com Degree Programme. Additionally, we offer the ACCA professional course alongside the B.Com Degree for students aspiring to pursue it.
Our department’s dedication and hard work were recognized when Mahatma Gandhi University elevated us to an approved Research Centre, allowing us to offer PhD programme. To date, 31 research scholars have completed their PhD, with 15 more in progress. We have four approved research guides supervising these scholars.
Our department actively engages in research, completing four minor and one major research projects. Noteworthy achievements include some scholars receiving the Dr. Ambedkar International Doctoral Fellowship and the prestigious ICSSR Research Fellowship.
Faculty members and research scholars have published numerous research articles in internationally renowned journals. Our department’s library boasts more than 3000 books and high-quality research journals.
Our students consistently excel in university examinations, reflecting the quality of teaching and learning in our department. Many of our past students have achieved remarkable careers, further attesting to the excellence of our teaching.
The Commerce Association organizes the annual “Commerce Colloquy,” a state-level intercollegiate competition since 2000. We also host “Junior Colloquy,” an inter-school competition for higher secondary students, which is highly popular statewide.
To foster research interest, we organize a “National Research Paper Presentation Competition.” Our teaching approach focuses on instilling values and ethics, aiming to develop disciplined and ethically conscious individuals poised for success in their careers.
